The Naming of the Things

The Naming of the Things explores the questions and issues facing a young Jewish man as he begins the shiva mourning rituals. Struggling after losing his wife, Ike debates, challenges, and ultimately finds wisdom and solace in a medieval Jewish story.

As an actor, director, and writer my aims are unified: to tell stories about the contemporary Jewish diaspora experience.

Throughout my childhood, expatriated from the United States to Mexico, Israel, and England, film was my cultural fulcrum. Film transcended the language and cultural differences that put distance between my peers and me. It helped me share my feelings and ideas when other forms of communication failed.

Modern Orthodoxy's philosophies, customs, and beliefs are a black box - invisible and unapproachable to the outside world. To help shine a light on this world and foster intercultural growth, I hope to extend an olive branch by sharing my experiences, debating and interpreting Biblical texts, and developing this representation in media.

I strive to use film to further conversation, emotional growth, and catharsis through the lenses of third-culture kid experiences, religious Jewish communities, and mental health.
